INTRODUCTION
The Sangtams belong to a Naga Tribal community living in the Eastern Part of Nagaland. Like any other naga tribal people, Sangtams enjoy their rights to religion and life in their own land enjoying their rich cultural tradition and heritage since time in memorial. It was in the year 1918 through one Sangtam man by the name Sekyuling, Christianity was brought to Sangtam soil. Ever since, the new faith began to penetrate every nook and corner of Sangtam land. This gave birth to many local churches in their respective villages/colonies and Towns.
In its initial stage, they were guided and mentored by the neighboring tribes like Sumi and Ao who are well advanced in their Christian faith. However, with the growth of churches and their faith, they were mature enough to be self-sufficient which gave birth to their separate Association called USBLA (United Sangtam Baptist Lithroti Ashimükhong).
Today, USBLA is one of the constituent member of Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC), Council of Baptist Churches in North East India (CBCNEI) and Baptist Word Alliance (BWA). And to this day, the Sangtams scattered in many other districts across the state of Nagaland: India stand Together in God’s Great Mission. As the USBLA climbed up to its 75th years of existence, it has 79 churches and 14 Fellowships having the baptized members of about 35,000 (approx).
